How to make a dust hood for your M3 with materials that cost about 99 cents.
I saw a version of this on another board, so I can’t take full credit, but I did customize it a bit.
Step 1: Buy a 99 cent 2 liter bottle of soda. Make sure it is a clear, strait bottle. Curved bottles like Coca-Cola will not work.
Step 2: Drink the soda, or pour it down the drain (it was only 99 cents.)
Step 3: Rinse it out.
Step 4: Cut off the top and bottom with a utility knife (no blood, please.)
Step 5: Cut it in half (top to bottom) so you have two curved pieces, each about 6”x6”.
Step 6: Use the template in the attached word doc to cut 2 holes in one piece and use the other piece to make two semi-circles. You may need to adjust the size of the holes to match your router/spindle and vacuum hose. I use the Bosch Colt Router and the Home Depot Bucket Head vacuum.
Step 7: using clear tape, tape the semi-circles to the ends of the other piece, making the top of the hood.
Step 8: Use clear packing tape (folded over) to create the flexible “brush” around the bottom of the hood.
Step 9: Slide the hood on to your router/spindle and then insert your vacuum hose. I used a wire tie to help keep the hose steady.
It is not perfect, but it works and lets you see what is going on “Under the Hood.”
