Old thread I know... but how did you configure the bed? What matetial did you use etc.? I have all the parts I need just thinking on what to use for the machine bed. In my post that has the materials listed there are 7 - 1000mm 2040 aluminum extrusions. These make the frame for the bed. The front and back 2040 rail that the aluminum plates bolt to are laying on their 20mm side and the plates are bolted to the 40mm side. The rest (5) of the 2040 aluminum extrusions are laying on their 40mm side underneath the bed, evenly spaced apart. They have quite a few t nuts in them that I didn’t have in my original material list because I had not yet bolted the bed to the frame at that point. I think I used 30 t nuts bolting the bed to the frame. The bed is made of 1/2” white starboard that I purchased locally at Alro metals and plastics. If you have a local plastics supplier they will most likely stock starboard. Let me know if you have any other questions

This has to be my favorite type of cnc project. I love it when people use a tool to expand the capabilities of that same tool. Super satisfying.

Re-hashing an old thread again, can you tell me what the spacers are for, I can't see them in your pictures? Thanks

Re-hashing an old thread again, can you tell me what the spacers are for, I can't see them in your pictures? Thanks Yes, they are delrin nut spacers. When you replace the 2040 extrusions on your x axis with 4040 extrusions your delrin nut is 20mm away from its mounting point. The only material I had to work with was 3/8” aluminum (9.525mm) so I made two of them and stacked them together in between the delrin nut and the x/z carriage. If you have a thicker piece of aluminum you could just extrude the model in the file I shared to adjust for your thickness.

Sweet! Would love to do that to mine. Thanks for the post! What did this upgrade set you back? I’m sorry, I completely missed your post a while back somehow. It was around 500ish. I’d add $100 to that number though. The aluminum was bought a few years before for another project that I had left over. Also, I didn’t have to buy a full sheet of starboard because the local supplier sells drops of it.

I just finished enlarging my carve king after not working on it for about six months due to the birth of my son. Effective travel is now 875x780. I milled all of the aluminum brackets and spacers with my original carve king. <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> I need to do this! Where did you buy your parts? Great job man - looks fantastic.

Stever, I know it’s an old thread but I attempted to use Fusion 360 for files you provided (thanks by the way). I am a definite novice in Fusion and cant\\’t seem to work it properly. I currently using Easel and switched to Carvco Maker. Would you happen to have the gcode files instead so I can cut the brackets?
Thanks
