Hi all.
I’m interested in large format high relief carvings. I was wondering where you would recommend sourcing boards for a 4’x4’x3+” piece.
I was planning on edge gluing several planks together; where can I find large quantities of large format lumber? Many places don’t appear to even sell boards that are over 1” thick let alone 2-3”.

I have been using 2x12 pine board. But anything thicker will require a glue up. I thought about using electric guitar blanks but they are still around 2" thick. But you can get some exotic wood types.

Woodworkers source is an online dealer however their pricing is pretty high compared to the local hardwood dealers I've used. www.woodworkerssource.com

I have access to many different species and sizes of domestic and exotic woods. 4’x4’x3" may be possible. I'll check. Let me know if I can help.

I found ebay has guitar wood blank pieces. You might check with exotic wood distributors also.

I think I’ve resigned myself to glue. Larger formats don’t appear to be available in bulk or for nearly the same price, so I was considering studding material: www.homedepot.com/p/2-in-x-4-in-x-104-5-8-in-2-and-Better-Kiln-Dried-Spruce-Pine-Fir-Stud-241046/308623528It’s a lot less pricy. 2 inch depth, so 12 boards glued side by side. My ultimate goal was to get a power route XL and do 4’x4’ relief carvings to tile my walls with. That way it matches the drywall segments and I can have a more modular design, getting into the walls when I need to fix something rather than having to tear the entire wall down and repaint.

I'd like to see a wall of relief carvings.
