Just recently I started having squeaking with Z axis travel on Power Route. Also, the Z axis does not seem to be positioning itself accurately. The completed work has small grooves where the bit went a little deep, but only in some areas then it corrected itself. Then later in the program it does the same, same over-depth groove. It isn't predictable as far as location in the project. If I run the object again there are still grooves, but not necessarily in the same places.

Sounds like you are losing step position on the Z axis. If you hear squeaking there may be some binding going on in the rails. Maybe some chip or debris has gotten into the ball screw or rails of the Z axis?

It seems likely to me that if both of your suggestions are true, then the two are related. Wouldn't you think?
