Has anybody ever cut titanium on their mill? Got a customer looking to get some work done on titanium, but I was curious if it’s even possible to get a good cut without spraying coolant on the bit. This could make my whole year if I get the contract. It’s not very deep, maybe 1/4” max.
Any recommendations for a good endmill that’ll cut it?
For reference I’m working with a dewalt 611 on the mega V

You should be able to cut titanium - it is a matter of choosing the right bit size, depth, width, and feeds and speeds. The limits that you will hit are the lower limit on rpm on the DW and the rigidity of mega. In general you will need to choose smaller bits like 1/8 or 1/16 and use HMS (high-speed machining).
GWizard has these parameters for a 1/8 carbide TiAIN bit: cut depth: 1mm, cut width: 3.125, feedrate: 230 mm/min, and rpm: 7816.

Good to know it’s doable, thanks for that video. Looks like I’ll look into a spindle that’ll handle that rpm range. Think the dewalt 611 lowest is 16k rpm. I know a few people already have a spindle on their mega v so shouldn’t be too hard.
Always worked with Amana bits, but do ya have any recommendations besides them?
