Starting to get a little adventurous with the Mega V, and having a lot of fun with it! Just had my house painted, and my electrical meter is outside, set into a little alcove with a cabinet style door covering it. Decided the old door looked pretty cheap and beat up, and decided to build a new one. Came up with this for the center floating panel. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedPretty happy and impressed with this machine. Made using Pine, a 1/4" endmill for roughing, and a 60 degree Vbit for finishing, and VCarve Pro as the software. I think this is really going to open up some design elements in my other woodworking. Planning a "1776" themed Hope Chest with various scenes on the panels.

Nice work. I have always used a 1.5mm or 1/16" ball nose as a finish bit for relief carving. I'll have to try my V-bit sometime. Great detail.

I ordered some bits of those sizes, waiting on them now. Have another carve roughing out right now, that I plan to finishc off with a 1/8" ball nose, the render looks good, (looked better than the 60 degree V bit render), so we will see how it works out. Will post the finished product tomorrow afternoon or Sunday.

Nice JP. Where did you get the design? I would like to try something like this too.

JoeE: Vectric has a website called Design and Make, and they sell a ton of 3d models, though some of them can get pricey. They also have a few sets that are free. For the price, the "Hack of the Week" model sets are a decent bang for the buck, and let you arrange the models in different configurations (the Vectric Website has some pretty good tutorials for each software package to help you get started on them). This carve was in a "Hack of the Week" set No. 173, and it has 5 models for $45. You can also find some model sets on Ebay and Etsy. Just look up 3D .STL

If you do, I highly recommend you take advantage of the Vectric tutorials on their website.
