Looks great Neil. Question: Is that a solid body that is made to look like a hollow body guitar?

Looks great Neil. Question: Is that a solid body that is made to look like a hollow body guitar? Hi Bruce, actually it is what is called a "semi-hollow" guitar. It is hollowed out all around except for the center block where the pickups, bridge & neck are mounted. I make them in both bolt on and set necks. Ordinarily there are no battery compartment, switch, or control covers on the back of the body - but this customer wanted a 6 position switch, triple shot pickup rings and a piezo out (which requires a preamplifier). So the guitar had to have access in the back for wiring. The next two arch tops I'm building (almost finished) will have the electronics fed through the f-holes just like a Gibson ES335. Thanks for the question!

Now that you mention a "semi-hollow" body, I think you have posted this type of guitar before. Interesting there is enough resonance to use a piezo pickup in the bridge.

Yes you'd be surprised how good the piezo bridge sounds - very transparent like an acoustic. The customer was jazzed. Of course it is no substitute for an acoustic guitar sound - it is just similar. Semi-hollow guitars in general have a bit more resonance than do solid bodies. This instrument has a pretty thick maple top to add stability to the trem - so it is a fairly bright sounding guitar. That said, the neck pickup selection sounds rich and full.
