I realize I put way to much thought into all this assembly, software, setting, etc. but I have actually cut my 1st piece just testing the waters so to say. I have doing little things in V carve pro a while until I actually bought it, still lot to learn. This weekend I finally plugged up the router the first time, did some air runs without a bit, then put a v carve bit in the router. I kind of did these on the fly one right after the other, the larger star shape, the next sized one down the circle, and because I had told myself my 1st piece would carve Jesus is Lord, I did that as well. I realize I have long ways to go, but looking forwards to that journey. The Mega V ran smooth as silk, I forgot to turn the router back on on the long part of the 'L'.

Great Job grandpa! Our first carves make us all nervous. Air cutting is smart. The font and star lines look good!

Agree entirely! Doing an air cut can help identify crazy plunges, wcs set incorrectly, or just incorrect feed settings!! Awesome work!

Carving something everyday now, the learning process, getting past my sticking points, starting to feel more comfortable with it all. . I've got to get mdf for a wasteboard cause the foam board was/is ok, actually because it was handy, it flexes a lot. I cut my wife's name in a piece of padauk, the first harder wood I've tried. It did good.

Padauk? I've never heard of it. I just googled it now - that woodtype looks nice. Good on yah Grandpa!! Go Go Go Go! I get padauk at the woodcraft store about 30 miles from home. It is a deeper redish color than cedar and dense and harder as well. Sometimes they have exotics a lot cheaper than lowes / home depot sell their regular red oak or poplar. I found that out after I built an entertainment center for our TV a few years ago. I used to turn pens on a lathe out of about anything I could turn. That became boring,
