Hi,
I have a Mega XL. When I try a longer carve, more than 10 minutes, my X-Axis skips steps when going to the right. Never to the left. I tried slowing feed rate. This shouldn't be an issue anyway, as I taking shallow cuts and using soft wood. I've waited for the motor to completely cool off. Cleaned everything, checked to see that there are no wiring issues.
It works fine on short time carves. Anyone have this problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Mega v's skip steps on axis's because the rack tension alignment is not set correctly. Unhook the x axis motor and move ut by hand to find out where it is binding.

I exchanged the connection plate the motor sits on. A couple of screws were indeed loose. The x-axis seemed to run fine, but ran into the same issue, but this time going the other direction.
Do you have any recommendations on how to fine to the alignment? Any tools that might be helpful?

If you're missing steps on the X axis and you've tried adjusting the pinion/rack distance. Check this thread on shimming. Adding a washer, between the Z plate and the X-Step motor plate, solved the problem I was having. Haven't had an issue since adding the washer. millrightcnc.proboards.com/thread/35/fine-tuning-machine
