This is a project I've been working on off and on for several months gun parts kit ca cz 26 , before i had mill machine I was trying to make a 5.25 inch ..220 inch wide slot in 1/8 inch chromally steel for the charging handle . I was using regular drill bits and dremel tool I was able to get pretty close on several pieces /attempts but never quite right either too large , small or not straight enough that the charging Handle would not bind ..
but on my first attempt able to finally make a nice clean , as close to perfectly straight as I can tell , charging handle works great nice and smooth , no drag no binding .
Used a dewalt dwp611 at #1 setting aprox 1600 rpm using a carbide end mill will add pics but have to get ready for work

Hi and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your project success and on your first attempt no less. Are you running an M3 or a Carve King?

When you mentioned milling steel, I assumed you may be running a Carve King, but the M3 is certainly great machine, just most often used to mill aluminum and wood rather than steel. Milling steel in your first go is pretty ambitious, glad it worked out for you.

That's awesome Alan. I can't wait to see the pictures. What stepdown and feedrate did you use?
