It's obvious the machine needs fine tuning - you can see the Z access assembly pitching forward during the feed on occasion - but all in all its a good first run. Wasn't able to get my old laptop with xp to work - don't like using my good lap top - any suggestions on getting it to work with xp are appreciated.

Looks good. FYI: the weakest point is the very bottom of travel. I'd check the tension of v wheels and what not though.

On the XP matter: I bet the driver just isn't being recognized. Open device manager too see if you have something like an unrecognized USB or COM port. If so, follow the procedures in the sticky at the top of this page titled.
Side note: Looks like you may have left the protective paper on the enclosure acrylic. Not sure if that was intentional or not. It peels right off though. They put it on there to keep it from getting scratched on the laser bed and in handling.

Kind of like it Will try your advice with regard to XP - thanks much for the tip.

Got XP working - you were absolutely right - did what you said and it loaded right up - this computer may be a tad weak/slow for this however - will see how it goes. Additionally, found at least a half dozen V wheels that were too loose - fairly certain it is because was worried that they'd be too tight - so now this thing is running very, solidly, true and straight - all that's left is flipping round one of the drag chains (oh joy) and cleaning up the wires a tad. Also, getting the router seated so that the bit is perpendicular to the table (all the way round) - that's always fun - usually have to settle for close. Many thanks to you guys for providing top notch and well informed customer service - you also deserve a gold star for handling what must be a torrential rain of questions for all us newbies.
