Homing switch isn't working, y axis quick and jerky

Update: Problem is fixed. Homing switches were probably just loose. Y axis problems were resolved by installing the jumpers that I didn't install in the right location and had to switch the plug around likely due to the motors  being configured in reverse. Its good to go

Finally was able to get my com port working on windows 7. Problems I'm having now is the homing switches aren't activating when testing. Also when I check the y axis it jerks and moves far more than the x and z axis. It moves quicker and jerky. I'll double check the voltage later on this one. Just wanted to ask on things I should be trouble shooting.

As far as switches, make sure they are plugged in correctly. Red on left black on right. So left to right not up and down. People see the Y- printed on there and think it's the negative wire. Make sure you also have the right hex file for homing switches.

As for stepper movement, I can only think of voltage being the issue besides a bad driver maybe? Derek can probably offer more insight on that one.

Same as aforww said I had same problem with homing switches and had wires back to front well worth taking a good look.
I thought had it wired perfect and looked about 10 times to find I had x and y mixed up lol.

What aforww said is right on the homing switches. It's almost always a connection, like 99% of the time. Even if you have it plugged in the right place sometimes it can be a loose crimp on the spade connectors connection to the switch. You likely have the right hex file.

Checking voltage will give some insight, but I'll need more info to be able to help on the Y axis. How far does it move when you tell it to move? Is the belt running down into the idler mount? Is the set screw tight to the motor shaft or is it slipping down?

On the homing switches I have the black wire on the COM(I think is what it was called) and red on the NO. I have the wires soldered on to the spades, so I hope it's a solid connection. I'll have to check again.
When I tell the y axis to move 5mm it seems to move about an inch or so. I'll be in the shop tomorrow and I'll report back then.

Have you ever connected to your machine using Easel software?
Can you screenshot your grbl settings by typing $$ and pressing enter? I'd like to see those settings please.

Update: Voltages were within spec., it was actually missing the jumpers I had installed them on the 4th axis. So that is fixed.

Aforww, I followed the example on youtube by big guy black shirt. EX. Z+ red on left, black on right terminal.

I also checked for continuous current on the switches as well they all read about 4.7v and drop when triggered.

Jerk and fast movement is solved. The homing switches still isn't activating. I tested by showing the verbose output and had no sign of switches activating.

Are any of the switches triggering on the verbose? You'll have to manually trigger them during the cycle. It will Home Z first and if that one never triggers then the whole cycle fails. It's possible (I've done it) where I had the Z limit switch plugged in the wrong pins took me a minute to figure out why Z was crashing and then the cycle canceled.

None of them are activating on verbose in idle. I haven't tried triggering them on the cycle. Only on idle. I will try to do it on the cycle. Would anything happen if I switched the wires around, would I run the risk of shorting anything?

Update: Switches activate during homing cycle.

New question. When homing Y axis Bed is moving toward the back. It should be moving toward the front correct? Ill double check the wires for this? My blue wire is up on top.

Should be all the way up, then all the way back and to the right. It is on mine. and that's where the limit switches are.
