I wanted to put my Carve King in an enclosure in the garage and keep the noise and mess contained. I went to this store, kinda like Goodwill, and bought 2 desks for about $22 each. I also bought a large picture $15, that had a good aluminum frame, and a large sheet of plexyglass. I cut down the picture frame size to be a door/window. Lower desk has doors and storage. Upper desk has 1 side open. The upper desk is bolted on upside down. ok ready for action. The door / window flips up on 2 hinges. It turned out nice enough that I am happy to use it, and yet, just getto enough that I don't start thinking I am special or something. :-) Safer to watch the machine with a shield. I want to cover the Aurdino, and get a dust boot, shop vac, to get some airflow through there. It needs some hot rod stickers or a vinal wrap. Jerry

That looks good. I was planning something similar with wood and plexi but this looks way nicer

Jerry,
Now that is creative! Very nice! Are you planning on any kind of dust collection system as well? I really like this design and think I may try to mirror something like it.

Thanks, and yes dust collection will be nice. I guess they are not really desks, they have a thick wood desktop but I guess they are printer tables or cabnets. These are "Pitney bowes". "Neither has a cutout where you legs go like a desk. I like the idea of more steel and less wood. Its more fire safe. The store is called "Re-store" it may be just a local place. People donate furniture office things, and home building stuff like doors and windows etc.
Good luck on your quest for large metal square things.
Can't do much better on the price this way unless you find something good on the side of the freeway !
I think a plexiglass box would be over $100 to make.

I am not sure what the headers were on. Old parts. I went to the store a few times before I found what I needed. I took a very small razor knife to see the difference between glass and plexi. Try to score it. It is the only way I can tell them apart. Glass is a lot heavier too. I want to buy the biggest sheets of plexi they have.
If I have a dust boot on the spindle, and a shop vac, that pulls enough air out of the cabinet? Should I have the air inlet in the back near the Ardunio?
Should I put the shop vac up on top or down in the lower cabinet? I see they have mufflers for shop vacs that go on the outlet.
What do you think ?

Personally I'd mount the electronics outside of the enclosure. I'd mount the shopvac in lower cabinet, drill appropriate sized hole up under the machine and mount a PVC fitting your hose will attach to. Will work similar to a down draft table. You could then disconnect the hose from the box and use it to vacuum out the big chips from the enclosure. Another option entirely, is buy the small harbor freight dust collector. They are way more quiet than a shopvac and move way more air. m.harborfreight.com/13-gallon-industrial-portable-dust-collector-31810.html

Electrics on the outside would me my thoughts too would be paroniod about to much dust getting in there. Would also put shopvac underneath I've watch a few videos on this and not many of them recommend the mufflers on shopvac they say they don't make a lot off difference and they insulate cabinet too keep noise down. You tube it 👍 This is what I intend to do and I was also going to put led lights inside my cabinet

I did order a strip of leds, remote, and transformer for about $11. I also ordered a digital timer for a 110v outlet. It can be set to run my shop vac, or dust collector, for a couple of minutes, then rest for a couple of minutes, then on a couple of minutes, then off, etc. That is $15. Amazon.
Jerry
Should I extend the wires to the box and locate it just behind the laptop? Or should I keep the wires as short as possible and put the box out the back of the cabinet?

You'd be fine and save some effort just putting them just outside cabinet. I'd just mount the box on the enclosure and call it a day.
