I'm building the z axis on the carve king. How easy should it be to rotate the lead screw by hand once the assembly is together?
I feel like it's taking too much force to move the carriage up and down the axis, but the lead screw didn't exactly spin freely during assembly either.
Just want to be sure before I proceed
Thank you for any input !!!

Mine is built - not under power yet. I find it a little hard to turn mine. not sure how much is too much but part of the difficulty is you can't really get it going because there is no room. Ya can get like 1/3-1/2 turn at the most at a time. I think that makes it difficult to realy judge the movement on it. Also you are moving a bit of weight (if router mount is attached) with 2 fingers in a cramped space. From what I have asked and read, there is supposed to be some resistance but nothing to impede movement. But what do I know - Somebody will chime in with the reality of the situation soon I suppose.

There will be some resistance to it, but it should not be a strain to turn it. I can grasp the top of the X/Z assembly and spin the coupler itself with my thumb. It's easier to turn the coupler than to grab the screw itself and try to turn it.
Two things contribute to tension here though: V Wheel preload against the rail Anti backlash nut tension against the lead screw.
If you feel like you have to really strain when turning the coupler with your thumb while grasping the top of the Z, one of those two things, or both, needs to be loosened.

Mine turns fairly easy with my thumb (some resistance) using the coupler method. Good description!

Believe taking some of the preload off the vwheels helped. Fingers crossed, and moving on...
Thanks guys
