Well, I did something incredibly...no...COLOSSALLY stupid. In a sleep deprived stupor, i got to the electronics section of the carve king instructions. I connected the power lead and the fan to the grbl shield. and then what do i do, you ask? Instead of plugging the 24V power supply to the connector, i moronically plug it into the arduino. literally fried the board in a split second before i realized what I had done.
So, can someone advise on the model arduino i need to purchase? Is it just a vanilla Uno Rev3, and then load grbl through the IDE?
sad i didn't get up and running last night, but more angry at my stupidity.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Dave

Hate to hear that bud. Yes, it's an uno rev3. PM us and we will provide a low cost replacement.

Sent ya a PM back. It was a reasonable mistake.
Thanks for being an honest person. You could have been dishonest and claimed that we sent you a bad board and demanded another one but you didn't. Thanks for being a good customer.

believe it provides power (5v) to the Arduino if you were going to use the board without a USB connection.

That's correct. It's not useful for our application, but the Uno has it there for the purposes of powering the board when a USB isn't connected as dlinderm mentioned. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's 12V tolerant. Our power supplies are 24V.

Dave Sorry to hear about your fried arduino, but thanks for the heads up. Still working on my Carve King assembly.
