While looking at options for end mill types and what I need to get for what projects, I rigged up a pen with a rubber band pushing on the internal spring to give me about 5mm of movement depth to play with. I got the test program to work.

Looks great. the paint looks like it will do a great job protecting it.
Can you offer any tips tricks on the process of painting? things like Do This or dont do this. any issues with fitting things together after paint? are there any areas to avoid when painting. what typ of paint did you use. would you use it again? or would you you a different type?

You want to seal the MDF with something like shellac, may take a little more on the edges. And then any paint will work. I just used some Rustoleum spray paint. I didn't have any issues fitting things together after the paint. The unit is really a solid design and went together easily.
