I saw someone else on this forum post that his hobby is collecting hobbies... What else do you folks do besides obsess about cutting things with your computer?
This probably could have been covered in the "introductions" thread, but well... I skipped that part. I'm a hobby collector as well... Was into car restoration for a brief moment with a '71 VW super beetle and a '66 Ford Bronco right up till I caught myself on fire (twice) teaching myself how to weld. Decided wood projects were much better suited to my skill set (and my wife made me get rid of the welder). Have built a wooden kayak from scratch, wooden automata toys, more house renovation projects than I can count.. blah blah.
Also a life long aviation enthusiast... Was working on a PPL in powered aircraft then discovered gliders (sail planes). Am currently flying gliders and working on a private pilot glider license.. More fun/freedom than anyone should ever be allowed to have
What do you guys/girls do? Like for fun, besides this?

I had a LOT more hobbies before I had kids... These days, I'm into pretty much everything computer and mobile related, as I work in I.T. professionally. So I mess around with Linux, custom made firewalls, IP based security systems, etc. I have a Millright CNC and a cheapo 3d printer, so I'm into that on top of learning 3D design software, etc. I'm starting to get into more standard wood working, and I'd like to build a boat someday.
For a LONG time I was deeply into RC aircraft and helicopters, and I was training for my PPL. Never finished because of $$$ and time.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to get back into RC and multicopters, so that's on the horizon for me hopefully. But my main hobby besides these wonderful machines, is riding my motorcycle and doing Taekwondo with my kids. I do Taekwondo with three of my four kids, four nights a week. Here in Montana the "riding" season is shorter than elsewhere, and I still manage 10k to 20k miles per riding season. I try to take a weekend trip at least once a month and ride to work and everywhere else every day that weather permits.
My oldest son and I last summer in Umatilla, OR. We were in day two of a week long ride around Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
My oldest daughter, several years ago, on my first motorcycle. It was called the FlyinJ, because I'm Jason and my favorite gas station is the Flying J. It was a 1995 Suzuki GSX600f, with a TON of work I did to it.
My best friend, Steve, and I did a California Coast and Yosemite ride a couple years back. I was on the yellow and black Yamaha FZ-1. What a machine, 1000cc sport touring bike, would do 100mph in second gear easy, crazy fun machine.
I can say I have no problem at all flying go-kart sized airplanes with no engines, but motorcycles scare me (along with climbing ladders)! have only been on a motorcycle once in my life... maybe I just need to give it another try, very cool You should look into gliders.. Pure flying and the most inexpensive flying there is to be had! I lost course on my PPL for the very same reasons as you.. Have about 20 hours of power time in my log book, but it got crazy expensive and crazy time consuming to keep on track..
Boat building! you should do that.. addicting to say the least. Had never been in a kayak when I started mine.. My wife looked at me like I was nuts.. A pile of broken boat parts to a boat that looks good and even floats.. Boats are a fun hobby for sure..

Wish I could! There is nobody gliding around here. Montana isn't known for it's plethora of available aerial activities, LOL.
As for riding, I literally call it my therapist. I can get on my bike, throw some tunes in, and ride across states for less than the cost of a nice steak dinner. Last summer, when my son and I did that trip, we camped along the way at some really amazing places. I think we ended up spending $300 or so, TOTAL. That included camping fees, food, gas, etc. Heck, whenever I take the whole family camping, it costs me that much in just gas to get the SUV out of the driveway!
Is it dangerous? It can be, for sure. There's nothing between you and other drivers and the pavement. Little stuff that wouldn't harm you in a car, can be a serious threat on a motorcycle, a.k.a potholes and "fender benders". On that trip last year, I ended up riding the last six hours home, from Washington to Montana, through a thunderstorm that was dumping so bad I couldn't go more than 45mph on the highway. I had a windshield on the bike, and I have a face shield that hides away in my half helmet. Still, it was bad, water was puddling everywhere. At one point, it was raining so hard that the bike ingested water and died. Took me a couple hours on the side of the road, huddled under a tarp, to get it cleared out and working again. Someday, I hope to ride from Montana to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and then down to the Southern tip of South America... That's a road trip
I've got a friend who build wood strip canoes, they are amazing looking. I'm thinking more about building a sailboat. If it takes me 20 years to build it, then it will be done just about the time my last child heads off for college, and maybe the wife and I can retire and head to sea. Sailing, it seems to me, would be a lot like riding a motorcycle (and perhaps that's why I'm drawn to it). When I ride, I get the full experience of whatever weather I'm riding through, and I get a sense of being free that I don't get in a car. The wind in the face, the steady hum of the bike, and good music. I imagine sailing on the open ocean would be a lot like that, and I love the ocean. The wind, the sea spray, and nothing in front of you but miles of sea. The opportunity to go whatever direction you want, when you want. Strikes me as something I'd enjoy. I don't know for sure, as I live in a land-locked state and I've never had the chance to sail. But half the fun is in the building, right?
Hmm hobbies you say , I like to build portable game units like making a wii laptops or xbox laptops. I have also began making my own all natural home cleaning and laundry products which is weird cause I still go out to eat. and comic books I just started collecting again . And J I know its not really a motorcycle but I have had my eye on the Polaris Slingshot

After reading about all of your hobbies, I now have one myself; wishing I had cool hobbies like all you guys have! I am very impressed, and more than a little jealous. I do like to ride the motorcycle, but I need to get motivated to dust it off and do some service and get back on the road.
First time I saw one of those slingshot's on the road I was pretty sure batman was coming to get me! Those things are pretty sweet looking and I'd imagine a ton of fun.. I read a tutorial on the Xbox laptop thing thinking it would be pretty simple... just cram the crap in a box... I was wrong! Dang that looks involved and crazy complicated! The one I read was from a guy known for doing that stuff.. I can't remember his name, but the dude water cooled it, built a custom radiator, etc.. If you're into that you probably know the guy I'm talking about.. I wish I had the know-how/patience/money to try something like that..

no its like a traditional with xbox wireless or wired controllers ( xcept for the being able to play games form the hard drive) the cable you see is a external hard drive. I do think i could plug a keyboard and mouse in it but havent done so
