When things settle down a bit I'll have to look at getting back into other hobbies. There was a time that I really enjoyed playing chess. I also used to be into collecting old military surplus rifles. I never bought anything high dollar, but it was interesting considering the history of each piece.

One of the projects I'm working on designing is a large chess board, built up with stone walls like a castle, and a wood chess board on top. I bought plaster molds to make all the stones myself, and I'm going to likely cast or cnc all of the chess pieces myself as well. On top of that, my boys and I collect and shoot old military rifles and such as well... I truly hope you get some time back for yourself to pursue some hobbies... That way you don't burn out! J

I used to fly RC aircraft: planes, quadcopters, and helicopters. I've had less time to do that these days and the occasional crash is costly and de-motivational. It is still fun and I have a bunch of planes hanging around, so I hope to get back into it some time.

When I lived in California, I used to fly gas RC aircraft and sailplanes. I had a lot more disposable income back then, LOL... I'd like to get into quadcopters and FPV, but man is it expensive... J

Yes, it can be, but there are more and more affordable options these days.

J It sounds like we do have some hobbies in common. Do you have a milsurp? I have a Swedish Mauser with a beautiful stock that I like a lot but the Swiss K31 Schmidt Rubin is probably my favorite. That straight pull bolt action is cool. Back when I was collecting you could get an old Mosin for about 70 bucks though. Serious bang for buck.

I'm going to chop the barrel down to 22in and put a can on it I lapped and polished the chamber, polished the bolt, and put a shorter spring in. Cycling that bolt is butter. Glass bedded it into a synthetic stock.

Making barbecue was my hobby, then it became my job. IT was my hobby, then it became my job. Software development was my hobby, then it became my job. All I have now for hobbies is woodworking and booze reviews on YouTube. I wonder what the next career path will be...

That straight pull bolt action is cool. Back when I was collecting you could get an old Mosin for about 70 bucks though. Serious bang for buck. Back in the day, I remember getting used military surplus rifles at Big 5 Sporting Goods for less than $100... Now everyone wants them, and they cost as much as any other rifle. Previously, I've owned a Turkish Mauser, M. Nagant, SKS, AK 47... Fun weapons, but I have limited space and limited funds... So, I have what I need now, but not much in the way of military surplus weapons. I spent 8 years in the US Army, so I know my way around the M-16/AR-15 platform quite well. I've got a custom built (by me) AR in 556NATO with magpul furniture, 16" barrel, forward grip, timney trigger, etc, etc... It's a tack driver at 100 yards or less I can put rounds right on top of one another. I started a build with a custom lower, but I haven't decided what caliber to use. Looking at 6.5 Grendel, 6.8SPCII, 7.62x39, etc. I've got a 308 long gun that I compete with in local, long distance competitions (for fun, no prize) here during the spring/summer/fall months. Laying prone, with ammo I've developed and press myself, I consistently hit 18"x24" steel tank tracks hanging from a frame at 1400 yards. That's a LOT of fun. I enjoy the precision of it, testing rounds and loads, and getting out and shooting. My oldest son has a factory AR built by DPMS that's a decent shooter. The boys and I go out quite a bit. I've departed modern day thinking in my pistol selection. I used to have a Springfield XDM 9MM. Lovely shooting gun, but mine was finicky about ammo, which I didn't like. So, I sold that, and off the cuff bought a gun on sale at the local sporting goods place. It's a turkish pistol called a Canik. Fits my hand like a glove, drives tacks, and eats cheap ammo easily all day long (cheap to shoot). TP9SA or TP9SF, I can't remember which model it is, but it's desert tan and a boat load of fun to shoot. We also have the usual .22 rifles, bb guns, etc. You'll get a kick out of this. My wife shoots a 1911... We were made for each other J

I live in Montana, so weather is a factor, but I BBQ as much as possible Finally built me a proper smoker here over the winter, so this summer is going to be awesome! You know what they say, you can't go two miles without running into someone in IT... guilty as charged... But if your next job is woodworking a booze reviews, I'm jealous! I'll have to talk to my wife about that, see what she thinks J

"Can't swing a cat without hitting..." I hear ya there man. My wife has been tolerant of the Booze Shootout thing. More from the video editing time than anything. We can shoot an episode in about 10 minutes, but piecing together a weekly episode can take hours depending on what I have to work with at the start. That kinda sounds like a lot of things in life eh?
