Coaster v1.f3d (236.03 KB) OK I'm back at the coaster again. I'm bound and determined to make these. I'm way closer than I was in the beginning. I'm wanting to cut a square coaster with a circular cutout with a B in the circle. I am able to get the circle and the B outlined but I just can't figure out how to remove the stock between the circle and the outside of the B plus remove the stock from inside the B. I can't play with the model much at the moment... but basically, you'll need to extrude the circles and text up out of, or down into that square stock to get the effect you want. I like to create my stock then sketch any features you want such as your B and circle onto the top face. Right click on the text and select explode text. Then you can right click the interior of the B and extrude it down into our out of the stock, as desired.
You don't take sketches over to the CAM side. They should be hidden when going to the CAM side. Take just the body that you extruded the features down into or out of then do your cam setup from there.
I'll come back to this later when I have another minute, but I wanted to try to point you in the right direction.
There are other ways to skin this cat, but that's my approach. Hope it gets you somewhat on the right track for now.

That's probably the way I'd do it as well. Sketch stock extrude to thickness. Sketch design extrude up or down. Click lightbulb next to sketches in your operations box then move to cam. 3D adaptive to clear out all recessed areas 2d contour around perimeter.

Yeah Coaster v4.f3d (287.08 KB) Thanks guys. I finally whooped its butt. I was thinking of doing everything in one operation instead of separate steps. I made the stock then extruded the circle to 1/4". Then I made the B outside of the stock. I made it to size and and 1/4" thick. Then I moved the B into the circle, done! I'll conquer Fusion sooner or later.

For future reference, you don't have to make the B outside of the stock. Just sketch it on your stock and extrude up or down as needed. Glad you got it though! Fusion is powerful and complicated but you'll get there! |

That wouldn't make a very good coaster because the glass wouldn't have been sitting in a recess. I got that take care of them daggone Fusion decided it wasn't going to convert this into Gcode without a fight. After several hours I found a post in Fusions forum telling exactly how to fix it. It seems not all of the orientations were the same. It is now DONE and in Gcode ready to cut. I have a feeling learning Fusion is gonna be interesting to say the least.

It was giving an offset error. After digging around I found out there was a difference between in the orientations of the different operations. I had to go back and get all of them to match. Any reason why the spindle would start milling in the air? I know I have something set too high but cannot figure out what.

Couple reasons. What operations is it and would the height it's starting at happen to be the same as the stock thickness? If it's a ramp cut, check the "Ramp clearance" number.

Also, does it ever get below Z height? Post your f3d file back up and we can probably spot any errors in CAM.

  Well I'm definitely off on my heights but hey it's also there. I've attached a couple photos of a strange design came through. Maybe you guys have an idea what might cause it. |
