@ bruce
Thank you. And you should post pics of it.
I ordered a bunch of 1/8 endmill bits from amazon, as well as a 90°& 60° v carve. What else should I be investing in prior to my mega v arrives?

What bits would you recommend for carving and cutting? I bought the 1/8 endmill with a lot of bits, but what bits are used for "the roughing passes" and "the finishing passes"? Some 3d carvings are the ultimate goal. And do you recommend using something longer than a 2" shank?

Hi, I'm John and I just order a Carve King and am excited to start milling stuff. I'm really new to this and have never used a cnc before. I'm not sure though if I will need to connect a computer to this unit or is it stand alone. I know I need a g file but how do I feed this file into the machine? I tried Fusion 360 and got overwhelmed as soon as the program opened. Then I tried VCarve Desktop Trial and found that it is much more user friendly for a newbie like me. Can't export files in trial version so now I'm pooched. Any guidance or tips would be very much appreciated.

Hi John, It might be helpful to watch a couple Youtube videos. Do a search on the phrase like "cnc beginners guide" and pick a couple videos to get you started.

Work bench
What size work bench would be recommended for the mega v machine? I was thinking 5x5 but do I need to go bigger?

That should be enough I would think. But if you're like me you never have enough workbench space. 😉

Hello,
Longtime woodworker and craftsman, taking the CNC plunge. Got the M3 to help with guitar restorations ( inlays, small parts etc). Looking forward to getting this machine working.
Thanks, Joe

Hello everyone. I just purchased the MegaV and can't wait for it to arrive. I am still a beginner but have been designing in VcarvPro, and running a Bobs E4 CNC since last Feb. I wanted a new CNC that had a rigid gantry. The Bobs CNC could not work with hardwoods very well and would jump because the gantry was not very rigid. I sold that unit in June, purchased a CNCEST Chinese CNC. What a nightmare it was!!!!! The breakout board and "Z" were malfunctioning, there was absolutely NO support. I had to file a complaint with Amazon to get the return initiated. Well, that piece of junk is still on my CNC table. I will dismantle it to get ready for for the MillRight machine. I should have purchased the MillRight before and saved all the headaches.
